Electroplating Technology

We know that electroplating is used to make metal coated with other metal substance. Traditional technology always use electric current on the process to make some metal can be coated to other metal by dissolving that metal into solution. Sometime need acid or base solution to make the metal can become a solution or dissolved. Metal which dissolve in the solution will become metallic ion. Each of metal can have different ion charge on the solution depend on the metal valence. On modern knowledge to coat metal should not use electric current but can use electroless metal coating, for example Electroless Nickel coating. The advantage of this technique nickel can be coated not just in metal but also can coated in plastic.



For example chromic acid HCO3 if dissolve can become CrO3-, but when electric come to the bath this ion can change into strange ion Cr (VI) or hexavalent Chrome which have different characteristic to CrO3-. The process of CrO3- to plate in other metal called as chrome plating.

Nickel metal itself can’t dissolve in the water but this metal must be reacted with sulfuric acid to be Nickel sulfat substance. Nickel sulfat can dissolve easily in the water and by using certain chemicals, nickel can be coated into other metal. Each of metal electroplating may have better kind of steel should be used in order can plate in good performance. Nickel sulfate in the solution will become nickel ion or Ni-. This ion by use of electric current will be plated into anode and cover the surface of anode. This technology called as Nickel plating process.
